The second pillar of emotional intelligence is self regulation! After self awareness (knowing, understanding, and accepting who you really are) you have to learn how to regulate your emotions. I really like this statement for self regulation. "Self regulation involves taking a pause between felling and action! We live in a very impulsive society. We want what we want now, we say what we think and feel, and we react before thinking. Great leaders self regulate! They think before they act. For me, someone who has been leading for over 23 years, this has been a big area of opportunity in my leadership. Quick to act is one of my top strengths as a leader. But this strength over used can often show up as someone show is rash and brash. With the amount of inputs we receive as leaders it is important to self regulate so that we can show up best for our team each and everyday!
